Peace World is the junior-level platform to execute the mandate of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace for promoting the social ministry of the Church in both theory and practice
-
Peace World emphasises the need for young people to build resilience and discipline, and to see themselves as citizens of the world. With the Peace World, we are forming a new generation of informed citizens, who are given a voice and a chance to initiate campaigns for worthy causes.
-
Peace World lessons are drawn from the Catholic Social Teaching and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Both have a lot in common. And although embedded in the Catholic tradition, the message communicated during our sessions is denominational neutral.
-
Conscious of the ‘Peace Badge’ they wear, which gives them status and responsibility, it is expected of our young students to maintain a dignified standard of behaviour at home, in the school and the community.
-
Knowledge is power, and with knowledge come the skills-set that will stand our young students in good stead in future life, for we believe that the quicker they learn the better.
ABOUT PEACE World
Peace World is an off-shoot of the mandate of the Justice and Peace Pontifical Council that targets young people in the school environment with the aim of promoting the social ministry of the Church in both theory and practice. It is a platform for learning about justice and peace issues as contained in the Catholic Social Teaching (CST), aimed at raising the aspirations of young people to engage with the world around them and hopefully, to make a difference

OUR VISION
To raise the aspirations of our young students to engage with the world around them and to make a difference.

OUR MISSION
To provide a forum for all-round education that enables active participation in social action that will bring about positive changes in society.

CORE VALUES
We are guided by faith-inspired values in carrying out our tasks:
- Called to be instruments of Peace in our troubled world, we do what we can to promote good-neighbourliness.
- Make our Voices heard in the way society is being organised and so contribute to its sustainable growth for our future.
- Undertake practical acts of love, compassion and friendship to any of the least of my brethren as Jesus Christ asks of us.
SUSTAINABILITY
All those involved (our young students, school staff, core group and partners, sponsors) recognise that they must be passionate about the project. Availability of the learning material and continuous engagement in social activities are key drivers. Training of trainers programmes are available to inspire and enable teachers and educators – our foot soldiers – to spur them to become the catalyst for change they surely can be. Teachers already make a difference more profound than they – and we – sometimes realise. The peacemakers amongst us can encourage the direction of that influence for the good, if only we are willing to make a start.
IMPACT ASSESSMENT
Conscious of the ‘Peace Badge’ they wear, which gives them status and responsibility, it is expected of the students to maintain a dignified standard of behaviour at home, in the school and the community. Voiced opinion of parents, teachers, guardians and people of goodwill would be an important yardstick to measure how well they have been able to imbibe the culture of peace, witness to it and influence positive changes.
RESOURCES
“I appeal to everyone: let us pool our spiritual, moral and material resources for the great goal of educating young people in justice and peace”.
- Pope Benedict XVI, World Day of Peace Message, 2012
